About Us
Erskine Tree Surgeons Ltd was established back in 1982 by Bill Cairns. The company was originally run from home, adapting a small shed and office to work from. For a number of years Bill worked during the day as a tree surgeon and went out quoting work at night. Esther Cairns answered the telephone during the day while bringing up a young family of 3. Through hard work and determination the foundations of Erskine Tree Surgeons were laid.
Over the years Bill has become a craftsman Arborist achieving an RFS Certificate in Arboriculture, SCOTVEC Urban Tree management Certificate and trained to AA Technician Cert Arb level. He was also a part time Practical Skills lecturer at Woodburn House in Glasgow for 1 year. Bill continued manual working until about 10 years ago. The volume of clientele grew to a level where a full time surveyor was required. However on occasion he can still be found working with the squads enforcing quality control.
The company predominately worked with 3 squads consisting of 3 men. Original staff members stayed in employment for approximately 15 years, which is uncommon for small businesses.
Esther Cairns trained in accountancy once the children grew up and is still the main point of contact for telephoned enquiries as she still maintains the role of office manager. That is a lot of calls over the years!
Esther-Marie Cairns went to university to study Business & Management, specialising in Human Resources. Her role within the company is providing personnel assistance whilst dealing with business and employment law.
Lee-Anne Cairns originally started out as labourer for the company. After a year she went to university to do her degree in Arboriculture, specialising in tree biomechanics. Lee-Anne is primarily Erskine Tree Surgeons Ltd appointed consultant, but is also a qualified tree surgeon, provides tree work quotations and reviews all Health and Safety legislation related to tree surgery.
Kevin Cairns first trained as a car mechanic and then changed careers to become a tree surgeon. Kevin holds a national diploma in Arboriculture and is a fully qualified tree surgeon, specialising in large tree removals. He holds the role of charge hand within his team.
We endeavour to maintain the values of a family run business and the subsequent customer service that we provide
